The immense success of video games has directly resulted in the creation of video game movies, which are basically adaptations of the most popular video games like Max Payne, Tron, House of the Dead, Mortal Kombat, Resident Evil, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Price of Persia: Sands of Time, and indeed many others. The birth of video game movies occurred sometime in the 1980s. None of the video game movies that were created since then could ever match up to the standards of the video games from which they were adapted from, with the possible exception of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Most of the video game movies have been absolute flops. The man who single handedly championed the creation of some of the worst video game movies is Uwe Boll. He is a director, producer and screenwriter of German origin who has produced some of the worst movie adaptations of video games that were ever made. His films were produced under the banner of KG Boll Productions. From the early 90s to the present day he continues to make some of the worst movies.

Failure of these video game movies:

None of the video game movies that were produced could ever match up to the standard or the popularity of the video game in question. Film makers like Uwe Bull have tried to cash in on the popularity of video games, but have ended up creating some of the worst films ever made. The most important reason behind the failure of video game movies is probably the tendency of a film adaptation of a video game to differ drastically from the video game itself. Video game loyalists could not take it in their stride and consequently most video game movies have bombed at the box office. Film adaptations of video games have been mostly done by Uwe Boll, a German film maker who has been dubbed as the Ed Wood of video game movies. For those who are still clueless, Ed Wood is regarded as the worst film maker of all time.

Uwe Boll has unsuccessfully tried to cash in on the video game craze by directing and producing a string of video game movies that have been critical and commercial failures. Uwe Boll has been producing movies from the 1990s till date, and none of the movies that he made could ever attain any success. He has been ridiculed as one of the worst film makers of all time, yet he still continues to produce and direct video game movies with enormous zeal. Uwe Boll has directed and produced a number of movies under the KG Boll banner. Lara Croft- the only exception:

Most of the worst video game movies have bombed at the box office, and have been both critical and commercial failures. The only exception is Lara Croft: Tomb Raider which has become extremely popular, and has won rave reviews. This is perhaps the only instance where a film version of a video game could achieve some success. But the success of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is thought be an exception to the general fate of video game movies. Many are of the opinion that this movie was a success solely because of the popularity of the actress Angelina Jolie.

Worst video game movies ever:

Max Payne is probably one of the worst video game movies ever and it has received hundreds of negative reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a rating of 16%. Max Payne was a 2008 noir action film that was directed by John Moore. Max Payne video game loyalists cried foul the moment this movie was released. It wasn’t loyal to the video game, and couldn’t match up to the standards of the Max Payne video game. As a result this movie was dubbed as one of the worst video game movies ever made.

No video game movie has been able to match up to the success of the immensely popular video games from which they were adapted from. Video game movies are now a dying genre as people have realized that keep up to the high expectations of video game fanatics is by no means an easy task.

1. 1953 Chevrolet Corvette

The 1963 models of the car had better and improved features like the 429 cid, special heads, valves, two-piece aluminium intake, and dual quads. The hoods, fenders and bumpers were also made of aluminium to reduce the weight of the car. The 1963 Impala was very rare, and only 7 of them can be found today.

10. 1964 Ford Thunderbolt

To keep up with the rising competition from other manufacturers in the market, Ford introduced this car as “purely designed for racing”. It was characterized by plexiglass windows and fiberglass body panels. Its interiors lacked comforts like armrests, mirrors, sound-dampening insulations, radio and heater. Because of all this, it was not appropriate for daily usage and hence, only 100 cars were sold in the year 1964.

Long before 3D animations and stunning cinematography and sound effects, there were already silent films. Silent films are films that don’t have recorded sound effects, not even spoken dialogues. 1915, The Birth of a Nation

A 3-hour Civil War epic from D.W. Griffith, The Birth Of A Nation, is a definite must-see. It was a highly successful film possibly due to the controversy that evolved after the war involving racist depictions of slaves. Accordingly, this film was what inspired the Ku Klux Klan to reform.

1916, Intolerance

This is another film from D.W. Griffith. Offended by the negative publicity of his other film, Birth of A Nation, Griffith strikes back with a vengeance with Intolerance, a film which features four different stories, specifically the depiction of the struggles of workers during the industrial revolution, the story of Christ’s Passion, the fall of Babylon, and Bartholomew’s Day Massacre in France. Such stories are expertly interwoven together to arrive at one major theme – intolerance.

A horror film about a doctor and his sleepwalking servant who’s thought to have anything to do with the murders. The ending of the film is quite unexpected, the reason, perhaps, could be due to the fact that the original ending would have had negative undertones to the high and mighty in politics.

1922, Nosferatu

Another horror film that would have been based from Dracula, however, because the producers were not able to secure the rights, the film had to be edited anew and the plot somehow changed. Director F.W. Murnau did a tremendous job in using shadows and silhouettes to create a horrific-looking character.

Very comical, this film had the legendary Buster Keaton perform a role as a movie projectionist and janitor studying to become a detective at the same time. Sherlock, Jr., has been hailed as one of Keaton’s best.

This film earned the title as the most expensive picture during its period. The story revolves around the life of a dentist whose wife wins in the lottery but gets obsessed with money. Originally, Greed took nearly 9 hours but was drastically cut down to only four hours.

1925, The Phantom of the Opera

Released in 1925, The Phantom of the Opera is based on Gaston Leroux’s novel of the same title. What’s striking about this film is the makeup worn by the film’s star Lon Chaney. Chaney himself did his eyes, painting his sockets a deep black. The tip of his nose was pulled up and pinned in place using a wire. His nostrils were painted black and he wore a set of jagged false teeth into his mouth so he would look exactly like what he’s supposed to look – the Phantom.

A definite winner, one of Charlie Chaplin’s best for sure. Chaplin as the Tramp participates in the gold rush in Alaska and finds himself in an unlikely adventure. The Gold Rush is heartwarming and hilarious,  not at all cold and dramatic as its poster seemed to make the impression of.

1925, The Battleship Potemkin

A Russian film directed by Sergei Eisenstein that tells of the mutiny that happened in the early part of the 20th century following the rebellion of the crew of Potemkin (a Russian battleship) against their officers. A Communist propaganda film, no less.

1927, The General

Another winner from Buster Keaton. Keaton is a young railroad engineer who dreams to serve his country in the Civil War. Unfortunately, when he tries to enlist as a soldier, he is turned down, so Keaton returns home instead. The following year, The General, which is actually a train, is hijacked by Union soldiers, and Keaton single handedly stops them. The film boasts of action sequences that make use of real, running steam trains, and one scene in particular – that of a bridge that collapses at the same time that a railroad train crosses it.

1927, Metropolis

A modern sci-fi flick, the first of its kind. Set in futuristic urban dystopia, Metropolis depicts capitalism, evaluating the crisis that goes on between the workers and employers. The release of this movie has paved the way for other sci-fi movies, notably Star Wars and Blade Runner. Metropolis holds the record as one of the most expensive silent films ever produced.

1927, Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

Considered by many as an all-time best, Sunrise is a story of a marriage that almost failed wherein the man is charmed by a tramp from the city who tries to convince him to kill his wife by drowning her. But he is not able to do it and realizes that he loves his wife. So they give their marriage a second chance, and how they do it in the film is what keeps viewers from watching it again and again and again.

1929, Un chien Andalou

It certainly looks like weird films may have begun as early as 1929, with the showing of Un chien Andalou. One unforgettable scene in this film was a grisly image of an eyeball being cut open, a clear indication that Andalou was born out of the warped state of mind of director Luis Bunuel and painter Salvador Dali.

The last of Charlie Chaplin silent movies, City Lights has the Tramp falling in love with a blind flower salesgirl who mistakes him for a wealthy man. There are so many different roads that are known for being dangerous that it is hard to consider these roads and the overall safety of those who are driving or riding on these roads. Most of the roads of the world that are considered to be the most dangerous are working through some different types of terrain that simply could be considered that there were no different areas of the world. These different types of terrain include that these roads are crossing over waters, rocks, mountains, stones and steep slopes.

North Yungas Road

The Road of Death (as it is known by both locals and those who are unfamiliar with the area as well) or the North Yungas Road in Bolivia is considered to be the most dangerous road in the world.  This road is a mere ten feet wide and stretches for miles on the side of a mountain.  The road runs for over forty miles in these conditions.

Sichuan-Tibet Highway

Another road that is considered to be very dangerous is the Sichuan-Tibet Highway in China. This highway is another highway that is running through mountains. Further the highway is high and narrow and has a higher than average chance of clouds due to climate and elevation conditions.  The highway runs for two thousand and twenty eight kilometers through the steep elevations and mountainous terrain.

Pan-American Highway

The Pan American Highways are also known as being extremely dangerous.  These roads run for nearly thirty thousand miles from Alaska to South America.  The Guiness Book of World Records has named this road as the longest motorable road in the world as well.  This road has rough terrain and goes through a number of different types of land formations as well as running through different various climates and temperatures.  There are some common problems with these roads which include that there is a high chance for flash floods and landslides as well as there being narrow curves and steep cliffs.

Coastal Roads

There is also a lot of danger that can be experienced in the Coastal Roads of Croatia.  These roads are located on the coast and the average speed is somewhat higher than that of the other roads on this list or other roads around the world.  These roads account for many of the injuries and deaths that are associated with driving and issues.

Guoliang Tunnel

Another road in China that has been considered to be dangerous is Guoliang Tunnel in the Taihang Mountains.  This road takes it name from the Chinese meaning for road that does not tolerate any mistakes.  Originally this tunnel was considered a gateway to the outside world for those who were living in one remote village.  They created the tunnel in order to help them to get to the outside world however the tunnel is very small and narrow.  The tunnel is a mere fifteen feet high and twelve feet wide which can make driving a scary thing.

Luzon the Halsema Highway

Located in the Philippines on the island of Luzon the Halsema Highway is known for being dangerous.  There are many things that would need to be considered when driving on this road.  There is a high chance of landslides on this road as well as parts of the road being unpaved and big stones being in the way or the possibility of extremely cloudy conditions as well.

Grimsel Pass

The Grimsel Pass in Switzerland is known for being dangerous as there are a number of things that should be considered.  These are that the road is running through the mountains and that the pass is two thousand one hundred and sixty five meters high.  This road runs between the valley of the Rhone River and the Haslital Valley.

Karakoram Highway

If you are traveling from Pakistan to China by ways of the Karakoram Highway there is much chance for danger as well.  This road is the highest paved road in the world and is known to be a tourist attraction for the different various views of the mountains that are available.

Another dangerous route to travel is Skippers Canyon in New Zealand.  This road is known for its beauty as well as its danger as the road is carved out of the rocks.  The road is narrow and unsealed and it is even warned by rental car companies in the area that it is road by which they should not travel.

Would you like to know some interesting facts about lightning? Well, it’s a beautiful sight to see all right, but it’s also rather dangerous and unpredictable, and can be quite impossible to predict. Today scientists all over the world are gathering information on lightning, monitoring the temperature, and even creating it artificially in laboratories. This article will tell you some interesting facts about lightning.

Did you know that each year, our earth experiences almost an average of 25 million lightning strikes? This is during an average of 100,000 thunderstorms! That roughly translates to almost a hundred lightning bolts per second. Makes you quake in your shoes, doesn’t it? You would also be surprised to know that when lightning strikes, thunder can be heard from about 12 miles away from the starting point. The average length of a bolt of lightning is almost a quarter of a second – and there are 3-4 strikes usually.

Lightning also travels at a frighteningly high speed – approximately 60,000 miles per second and the average length of a single lightning bolt is 2-3 miles. Plus, the temperature can get really high too! It might reach 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and that’s 5 times the temperature of the surface of the sun! a single lightning bolt usually travels through twisted paths in the air – these can be as wide as the breadth of a finger, or as wide as six or ten miles. That’s quite a range, isn’t it?

Sometimes, they can take direct hits, and still not get burnt – what happens is basically the electricity passes over the wet surface, and then gets transferred to the ground, where it gets neutralized.

There are many weird stories about lightning doing the rounds, which scientists have not been able to explain. For instance, there was this park ranger called Roy Sullivan, who between the years of 1942 and 1977, was struck by lightning a total of seven times! In 1942, his thumb and leg were burned, in 1969, his eyebrows were burned, and in 1970, his shoulder was burned. Then in 1972, his hair was burned, in 1973, it was his leg, and then in 1976, lightning targeted his ankle. Then finally in 1977, his chest and abdomen were burnt. Finally, after much depression and many psychological problems, in 1983, he committed suicide. Bizarre, isn’t it? Wait till you hear about Martha Maiko.

Martha Maiko was a Bulgarian woman, in 1935; she took in an American tourist named Randolph Eastman, who wanted to take shelter from the storm in her house. They were married a week later, but after just 2 weeks, he succumbed to a hit from lightning. Maiko then married again, a man from France called Charles Mort. When they went on a trip to Spain, he was struck by lightning. Maiko went back to Sofia, and started undergoing therapy to deal with her depression. She ended up marrying her doctor. They tied the knot in Berlin, but when they were en route to France, lightning hit the car and her husband died on the spot. Maiko didn’t remarry again!

The second type is negative, and the negative strikes are more common that the positive ones. Lightning, as stated before, releases huge amounts of energy. For instance, the energy released by the strikes can generate nitrogen oxides (from the un-reactive nitrogen present in the air). In fact, these nitrogen oxides are quite beneficial for plants, which use them for growth.

Standing 4 ft in length, found in tropical rainforest of Southeast Asia, makes this bear the smallest member of the bear family. Distinctive pale orange-yellow horseshoe shaped marking on a chest and same color around the muzzle and the eyes reflect its name. The Sun Bear does not hibernate, and, as a result, it can reproduce year-round. The offspring reach sexual maturity after 3-4 years and may live up to 30 years in captivity.

You might find it interesting that because of the resemblance between this creature and German emperor Wilhelm II, this animal is named as “Emperor Tamarin”. Weighing approximately 300 to 400 g, this animal reaches the length of 24cm to 26cm, with a tail of 35cm. What makes it unique is its long, white mustache, which extends to both sides beyond the shoulders. They live in family groups of 3 to 8 individuals. Emperor tamarins usually form mixed troops with another kind of monkey, the saddleback tamarin. In these troops, the tamarins help each other by improving their ability to detect predators. While emperors seem to be better at detecting aerial predators, saddlebacks are better at looking for terrestrial ones.

The White-faced Saki (Pithecia pithecia), also known as the Guianan Saki and the Golden-faced Saki, is a species of saki monkey, a type of New World monkey, found in Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela. The difference between the sexes is considerable. Adult males are black, with the striking white face. The females are brownish-grey and have only a narrow white stripe on the face between the inner eye and mouth. Color differences like this between the sexes are termed ‘sexual dichromatism’. They have long, shaggy coats and non-prehensile, long bushy tails. Adult males weigh around 2 kg females are slightly smaller at 1.7 kg

Also knows as Long Nose Monkey. Length of its nose makes this monkey stand out in the monkey family. Purpose of its long nose has not been identified yet. This Monkey also has a large belly, as a result of its diet. Its digestive system is divided into several parts, with distinctive gut flora, which help in digesting leaves. This digestive process releases a lot of gas, resulting in the monkey’s “bloated” bellies. A side-effect of this unique digestive system is that it is unable to digest ripe fruit, unlike most other simians. The diet consists mainly of fruits, seeds and leaves.

The Axolotl (or ajolote) (Ambystoma mexicanum) is the best-known of the Mexican neotenic mole salamanders belonging to the Tiger Salamander complex. Larvae of this species fail to undergo metamorphosis, so the adults remain aquatic and gilled. The species originates from the lake underlying Mexico City. Axolotls are used extensively in scientific research due to their ability to regenerate most body parts, ease of breeding, and large embryos.

Tarsier is a tiny animal, measuring about 85 to 160 millimeters (3.35 to 6.30 in) in height makes this one of the smallest primates. The average adult is about the size of a human fist and will fit very comfortably in the human hand. Tarsiers have enormous eyes and long feet. Their feet have extremely elongated tarsus bones, which is how they got their name. They are primarily insectivorous, and catch insects by jumping at them. They are also known to prey on birds and snakes. As they jump from tree to tree, tarsiers can catch even birds in motion.

The Dumbo Octopus gets its name from the two fins which look like and are situated like ears. ‘Dumbo’ will swim using these larges fins and with the help of its arms it is a formidable swimmer and this shows when ’Dumbo’ needs to get somewhere fast, like away from a predator! Their reproduction happens by laying eggs and apparently the dumbo octopus hasn’t a special breeding season and it  feeds itself with little sea creatures like shrimps and worms.

10) Sucker Footed Bat:

A small bat, characterized by horseshoe shaped sucker-like pads on the thumb and soles of the feet; the ears are separate and large, each with a mushroom-like tragus, comprising a kidney-shaped fleshy expansion surmounting a short stalk; upper lip extends significantly beyond the lower; the pelage is moderately dense and mid-brown to golden brown, with some russet tinges.

11) Blob Fish:

The Blob fish is without a doubt in one of the ugliest fish in the ocean. These saltwater fish have what resembles a large nose in between two eyes and almost seem to be frowning! I guess with an ugly mug like that you would be frowning too. This deep sea fish is often found at extreme depths off of the coasts of Tasmania and Australia. For this reason the Blob fish is rarely seen by the human.

12) Shoe bill:

The Shoebill, Balaeniceps rex also known as Whalehead is a very large bird related to the storks. It derives its name from its massive shoe-shaped bill.
The Shoebill is a very large bird, averaging 1.2 m (4 ft) tall, 5.6 kg (12.3 lbs) and 2.33 m (7.7 ft) across the wings. The adult is mainly grey, the juveniles are browner. It lives in tropical east Africa, in large swamps from Sudan to Zambia.  Long in the leg and broad in the wing, standing well over a metre high and dressed entirely in dull, scaly grey, the Shoebill is dominated by its feeding apparatus, a huge and powerful appendage ending in a ferocious nail-like hook. Violent and primitive in appearance, the bird has caused taxonomists constant vexation and bafflement over its affinities.

13) Yeti Crab:

Yeti Crab also known as Kiwa hirsuta is a crustacean discovered in 2005 in the South Pacific Ocean. This decapods’, which is approximately 15 cm (6 inches) long, is notable for the quantity of silky blond setae (resembling fur) covering its pereiopods (thoracic legs, including claws). Its discoverers dubbed it the “yeti lobster” or “yeti crab”.

14) Angora rabbit:

The Angora rabbit is a variety of domestic rabbit bred for its long, soft hair. They’re believed to have originated in Turkey, along with the Angora cat and Angora goat. The rabbits made for popular pets with French royalty in the mid 1700s, spreading to other parts of Europe by the end of the century.

15) Narwhal:

The narwhals are usually in pods of about 10 up to 100 whales that swim solely in the Arctic waters. The name Narwhal means “corpse whale” because it often swims belly up, laying motionless for several minutes. The Narwhal is an Arctic aquatic mammal, one of two species of white whale. The most conspicuous characteristic of male narwhal is their single extraordinarily long tusk, an incisor that projects from the left side of the upper jaw and forms a left-handed helix.

16) Elephant shrew:

Also known as Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew, are widely distributed across the southern part of Africa, and although common nowhere, can be found in almost any type of habitat, from the Namib Desert to boulder-strewn outcrops in South Africa to thick forest.

17) Long-beaked echidna:

Echidnas are one of the two types of mammals that lay eggs (the other one is platypus). The long-beaked echidna is found in New Guinea, where it is widespread. They are easily distinguished from short-beaked echidnas by their long snouts, which account for two-thirds of the length of the head.

18) Long-eared Jerboa:

“The Mickey Mouse of the desert” – mouse-like rodent with a long tail, long hind legs for jumping, and exceptionally large ears. The jerboa, found in the deserts of Mongolia and China, is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List. The breeding period of the Long-eared Jerboa occurs twice per season, and this mating act happens right after one has awoken from hibernating. The average number of young ranges from two to six. Very little is known when it comes to how they take care of their young

19) Star Nosed Mole:

Like other moles, the star-nosed mole is very powerful in relation to its size. Using its paddle-shaped hands together with a twisting motion of its compact body, it constructs a network of tunnels about 50 cm (1.5 ft.) beneath the surface of the ground, but above the water table. Its nests are made of dried grass and other vegetation. The star-shaped nose is a highly specialized sensory-motor organ, which consists of 11 pairs of fleshy finger-like appendages, or ‘tendrils’. The star, which is less than half an inch in diameter, is divided into a high resolution central fovea region and less sensitive peripheral areas. It is much larger than the nose of other mole species, covering 0.92 cm2 per touch, compared to 0.11 cm2 covered by the noses of other mole species.

20) Matamata Turtle:

In Indian, the name mata mata turtle means “I kill”. It also means “fringed turtle” in Latin. But, today we know it just as the mata mata turtle. This turtle may grow to be about seventeen and a half inches long. The mata mata turtle is often mistaken for rocks and sunken logs. Their brown, black, golden yellow, and orange shells give them this appearance. The adult turtles are usually brown or black.
