I am sure in my heart that the Etios offers joy of ownership and quality of life to consumers in India”.

TKM will start its production of Etios from late 2010 at its second plant which is at present, under construction.

BMW 5 Series GT

BMW, one of the world’s largest car maker has announced that it will bring the elevated seating and packaging of an SUV [Sports Utility Vehicle] to its 5-series array with the addition of a liftback model called the Grand Turismo[GT]

BMW revealed a production look for the vehicle, which is set to debut at the Frankfurt motor show. It is expected to go on sale in the United States in December and is expected to be priced around $70,000s.

BMW claims that the car can touch 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, with a combined fuel economy of 21 mpg. In a first for a BMW in the U.S. market, the powertrain is outfitted with BMW’s Efficient Dynamics technology that includes brake-energy regeneration.

BMW expects the sales of the 5-series GT, at a modest 5,000 units annually which is very low when compared to the 5-series sedan for the financial year ended 2008.

Tesla Model S

Popular German car maker Daimler has recently bought a 10% stake in Tesla. The value of the stake is being evaluated at more than half a billion dollars. As per this deal, Daimler will now have increased access to the lithium ion battery technology from Tesla.

It must be remembered that Tesla Motors Inc. was down to just $9 million  in cash late last year. Factors like recession and lower gas prices made it difficult for Tesla to sell of its cars. So the deal certainly does not come across as a bad option for the electric car maker.

In fact, the deal comes as a quite respite for Tesla that was struggling with money problems for quite some time now. It was owing to financial constraints that the company had to give up its plans of building a new head office and factory in San Jose in 2008.

Shortly after the deal, Tesla has also got its federal loans worth $350 million approved. However, the approval still remains informal and shall be announced soon.

Apart from striking a deal with Diamler, Tesla has also been doing good with its Model S Sedan. The company recently announced that it had already received 1,000 pre orders for the same. A whopping 500 orders were placed in the first week of the unveiling of the car itself. Now that is certainly quite impressive.

Hopeful Daimler’s investment in Tesla will help in reviving the lost finances of the company and work in interest of Daimler as well.
