Bing is the aggressive and well-known little search service by the Microsoft. Bing has also manufactured an iPhone App that is now available up on the app store of Apple iTunes. Bing also revealed the free app at a party that was thrown by its mobile team in the city of San Francisco. It is said in the descriptions on iTunes Stores that making decisions and get where you want to go with Bing is very simple. You can also see the Bing daily images and other relevant details on its home screen. You can easily search your required maps or web through your voice, even saying an address. Bing iPhone software can be downloaded very easily to find your desired stuff nearby and also get there fast.

Bing PR has different high quality and unique features of the App including, daily images from Bing.com, tips and tricks on the home page. You can easily access voice search and Locate Me functionality via Bing. This app also has an ability to add pushpins and save their multiple locations. You can also show multiple sites and places on a single map at a time. Bing is little mockery of the iPhone as a premiere smart-phone. Bing is also one of the best on its platform to compete with the Google and others in mobile field.

Microsoft also has some Apps for iPhone like Tag Reader Apps, Seadragon Photo Apps and other various manual Apps as well. Some other companies have launched their Apps that allow its trendy software to work on Apple devices, but the Microsoft Company is still working to release one. Microsoft has already manufactured different types of Bing Apps for Black Berry from Research in Motion, for Windows Phones, to select BREW-based devices and Sidekick devices on Verizon, in addition to Bing mobile from a browser. Microsoft has recently showed off a wave of improvements for Bing Apps on iPhone.

Speaking about this, the CEO, Steve Ballmer, had addressed this in the Tokyo convention along with the latest plans of bringing the regulatory hurdles under control. This has currently had several phases of address and regulation but then the possible evolutionary plans are taking off with the new partnership venture.

Presently VP creative and founder, brand and community DivX, Rota stated, “Currently, Microsoft does support DivX, which is fantastic, but the company has brought in some third-party support for the Xbox 360, and we are not very happy with that.”

This statement was given by Rota while giving an over view of his new high definition of DivX codec; DivX7. The new DivX7 technology enables that it can encode you HD files. Note that these files can only be played on DivX certified players. Or devices that are compatible with DivX can use these files.

DivX codec become popular due to its ability to compress large files/ lengthy video segments into small sizes. Amazingly, the quality of the video does not impair. The technology used by Rota is said to be stolen from Microsoft’s MPEG-4.

Regarding consoles, at this time only Sony has signed up with DivX to be an official compliant for its PS3. It is looked forward whether any other console manufacturers would step forward to work with DivX. On part of DivX, Microsoft will be happily welcomed in this connection.

Vashist-Rota says, “When it comes to DivX branding, we have had a hard time with Microsoft. Obviously we would love for some sort of partnership to happen”.

Market analysts have an opinion that the collaboration of both Microsoft and DivX, if happens, will be beneficial for both, as more than 100 million are registered with DivX.

Is it expected to bring any surprise?

We have seen that Vista’s much awaited SP1 was just a combination of the automatic upgrades that were available for the OS and now it seems that SP2 may also bring something similar.

However, what comes next? It will be more apparent on Wednesday, as the beta version is handed to some of Technology Adoption Program customers on Wednesday.

Mike Nash says on the Windows Vista official blog, “There are some previously released fixes and it focuses on addressing specific reliability, compatibility and performance issues.”

“It is expected that Windows Vista SP2 will retain compatibility with applications that go on Windows Vista and Windows Vista SP1.”

Microsoft has no doubt about a timeline for the final release date, but the Redmond Company is insisting that it’s not going to be released before complete satisfaction of the team.

Nash says that the final release date is based on quality of Windows Vista SP2.

“We will get customer and partner feedback from the beta program before announcing a final date for the release.”

Microsoft recently announced that they plan to cut the price on several retail versions of their newest operating system, Windows Vista. As you can imagine, this is a move that comes to a shock to many. In fact, this move is one that nobody saw coming; even though Vista has been struggling to keep up, and it has taken a lot of flack from first time users.

In the United States, Microsoft has decided to greatly reduce the price of the high end version known as Vista Ultimate. The price of Vista Ultimate has fallen to $219 from a previous retail price of $299. Additionally, prices for the popular Home Premium addition are also being reduced from $159 to $129. As you can see, these are no small price reductions.

Windows Vista was finally released in January of 2007 to much anticipation. Since being released, Vista has sold well over 100 million copies. With that being said, the main reason for this is that the operating system is installed on most of the PCs on the market. When it comes to retail sales, Vista is much more sluggish. In fact, when compared to the sales of XP over the same timeline, Vista is lagging well behind.

One of the reasons for the lack of retail sales is that many experts and industry professionals have been critical of the new operating system. In fact, many users have decided to ditch Vista altogether and install XP on their computer. This is not good news for Microsoft.

Microsoft officials feel that lowering the price of Windows Vista will make it more accessible to the masses. While they will lose money on each sale in the retail marketplace, the company feels that this revenue will be made up in PC sales when buyers decide to upgrade thanks to a lower price.

It is safe to say that Microsoft priced Vista too high upon its initial release. Although it has taken more than a year to slash the prices, the company finally seems to be on the right track. They are hoping that this price reduction will increase sales across the board.

Microsoft has been fined $1.35 billion by the European Union for failing to comply with sanctions. Believe it or not, this is a record fine, and one that the European Union and Microsoft are taking seriously. After all, anytime that a company is fined in excess of one billion dollars it is sure to be big news.

Although this news is moving into the public eye once again, it stems from a 2004 ruling. Generally speaking, Microsoft is being fined because they neglected to share information with its competition on how to interoperate with its many software applications.

Once the court ordered that Microsoft share this information, they did comply. With that being said, the company charged royalty rates to those who accessed the information. While there is nothing wrong with this, the court agreed that the royalty rates were entirely too high.

Neelie Kroes, the European Union Competition Commissioner said, “Microsoft was the first company in 50 years of EU competition policy that the Commission has had to fine for failure to comply with an antitrust decision. I hope that today’s decision closes a dark chapter in Microsoft’s record of non-compliance with the Commission’s March 2004 decision.” As you can see, Microsoft is treading in unfamiliar territory. They are the first company to get hit with this type of fine, and hopefully they will be the last.

In 2004, Microsoft was fined more than $600 million for using its position in the market in an abusive manner. Additionally, the company was told at this time to supply the appropriate documentation to third parties such as developers and key rivals. Unfortunately, by July of 2006 Microsoft had yet to comply, and they were slapped with another fine; this time of $417.9 million.

Microsoft is not doing itself any favors by acting in this manner. While industry experts thought that they would learn their lesson in 2004, this did not happen. Perhaps this fine, weighing in at more than $1 billion, will make Microsoft realize that they are not above the law.

As of late, the biggest news in the tech and internet industries is the possible takeover of Yahoo by Microsoft. While it is obvious that Microsoft is all for this deal, it is safe to say that Yahoo is trying to avoid it at all costs. Not only did they turn down Microsoft’s first offer, but company officials have not led on that they are thinking of changing their mind.

While both companies are sure to be effected if this deal goes down, there are two other groups that are sure to see some changes as well. They include those who own stock in either company, as well as those who use Yahoo and/or Microsoft web based services. With that being said, are you for or against a Microsoft takeover?

It seems that there is a split decision on this matter. If you own Yahoo stock, you are well aware that it has been under performing as of late. Many feel that a takeover by Microsoft will help to steady the ship, and in turn increase the overall performance of the stock. Is this a guarantee? Of course not. But it is definitely something that could happen if a deal takes place.

On the other side of things, you may be one of the people who are worried about what an acquisition of this size would do to the online world. For instance, do you use Yahoo Mail? If so, there is a chance that this could greatly change if Microsoft takes over. For this reason, you may be against this acquisition taking place.

The shame of the matter is that the millions of everyday users, as well as stockholders, have nothing to say about this deal. It appears at this point that Microsoft is willing to do whatever it takes to ac quire Yahoo. This includes preparing for a proxy battle that could cost the company up to $30 million.

For now, it is up to Microsoft and Yahoo officials to figure out what is going on. If you are not a company insider, you will have to wait around to see what happens over the next few weeks. The good thing is that Microsoft is not sitting back. If progress is going to be made, it will come sooner rather than later.

Although Yahoo rejected Microsoft’s first bid, this battle is far from being over. Believe it or not, Microsoft is going to continue to push for a deal within the next few days. At this time, it appears that Microsoft is taking all of the appropriate steps to start a proxy battle with Yahoo.

Many people are not aware of what it means to wage a proxy battle. Simplifying this process is no easy task, but there are some details that can be seen on the surface. It is Microsoft’s hopes that after putting together a list of directors to take over Yahoo’s board, that the majority of stockholders would support this effort. If this happens, Microsoft will be able to more or less bully Yahoo into making the transaction.

If Microsoft moves forward with its proxy battle, it is sure to spend a lot of money during the process. Industry experts are predicting that Microsoft would have to spend approximately $20 to $30 million to complete the process. As you can imagine, they would much rather have Yahoo agree to a friendlier takeover. Not only would this save them money, but it would save them a lot of time as well.

Over the next few days it will become clearer if Microsoft plans to move forward with a proxy battle. If they decide that this is the best route, they will need to secure a list of Yahoo’s majority shareholders so that they can contact them one on one. As the process moves forward, at Yahoo’s annual meeting in May, the vote for new directors would take place.

At this time, most industry experts feel that Microsoft will move forward in this direction. Not only will they move forward, but many insiders also agree that they will be successful in their endeavors.

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said, “We sent them a letter and said we think that’s a fair offer. There’s nothing that’s gone on other than us stating that we think it’s a fair offer. They should take a hard look at it.”

The question is: what will Yahoo decide to do after they take a comprehensive and hard look at the offer? The answer to this question is sure to come out sooner rather than later.

The New Operating System is in ‘Escrow’, a Final Stage Before its Release
Microsoft is going to release its “Windows Server 2008” in the month of February. An official announcement was made on January 18 ending all speculations.

Microsoft was a little hesitating with declaring the exact timing for this release of its new operating system until now and it was only said that this new release will hit the market sometime during the first quarter of this year.

While giving a precise time, Microsoft said that the new release will be introduced on or before the February 27. Microsoft would be launching this product in Los Angeles where it be hosting a celebration for” nearly concurrent releases of “Visual Studio 2008”, that it brought out in the month of November last year. The event will also highlight the launch of “SQL Server 2008”, which the company intends to launch sometime during the second quarter of this year. Microsoft has begun using the tagline “heroes happen here” for the launch.

With this new introduction, Microsoft hopes that the “Windows Server 2008” will connect the concept of ‘virtualization’ directly with its server operating system. This will happen for the first time in the history of Microsoft. Virtualization will be in the form of ‘Hyper-V hypervisor’ and it will take some more time, possible six more months from the release of ‘Windows Server 2008’, to take a real shape.

“Windows Server 2008” has several other new features including the ‘Server Core’, a slimmed down installation option that facilitates the businesses install only those features they need to run the server in a specific role. It also has command-line scripting with ‘PowerShell’. This would be an all new version of the” .Net Framework”, “ a re-vamped Internet Information Services, and Network Access Protection”, says Microsoft.

“Windows Server 2008” operating system is presently in the “escrow” mode. It is a phase which involves stages for passing the final testing’s performed on the operating system. There might some more changes introduced immediately after this phase. During these phases of testing recently Microsoft’s internal IT department could spot out a memory bug related to printing. Jim Dubois, GM of Microsoft IT, named it “show stopper”. “That one’s getting fixed, while other minor bugs might not be just yet”, he says.

Bill Laing, General Manager of Windows Server Development, says that the “ Windows Server 2008” will enter” its final stage before release” within a few week’s times only. Microsoft calls this stage in an informal way as “break glass in case of emergency”. This is the stage that is just a week or two away from its launch and “changes are almost unthinkable” says Bill Laing.
