Sorry to say, but you can’t surprise people with your press conferences if people already know what you are going to announce in them.

Microsoft seemed to do the same on this Monday, as well knew that the company was about to release a motion sensitive control system, but something was quite surprising despite all this, as none was aware how polished that new product could be. Yup, it’s true Project Natal was really surprising at its unveiling.

Now it’s Sony that looking to get some spotlight at E3 and just like always the pressure is mounting on and on. It’s, indeed, a bitter pill for Sony to sustain its PS3 success even after attaining such a great next-gen level in gaming consoles.

Now the speculations are about a more compact and slimmer PS3, but right at that moment it doesn’t seem to happen. However, PSP Go or PlayStation Portable as it is being named has been utterly revamped and now its going to get somewhat sliding shape that might be reckoned as the best shot from Sony to sustain its mojo.

There are also rumors that Sony will come up with a new sort of motion-sensitive controller at E3.

When it comes to the games, it is not clear yet what Sony is going to show off, but the God of War title is certain.

In the past 14 years, Sony has faced an annual net loss of 98.9 billion yen that amounts to about $1 billion. It has been projected by the company that it is going to face even more loss in the coming days as there is a noticeable decrease in user demand of electronic goods. The loss is so immense for the company that it has planned to close three plants in Japan this year so as to compensate for its loss.

This way, Sony will close a total of 8 plants worldwide through the year 2010, which will bring the total number of its existing factories down to 49. This decreasing practice doesn’t only restrict to closing plants, but also Sony is cutting off its 16,000 workers.

In the January to March quarter, Sony lost 165 billion yen, or about $1.73 billion USD which is huge when is compared to the 29 billion yen or about $304 million it attained last year during the same quarter. Sony is one amongst the big Japanese conglomerates that are facing loss lately like Toyota and Hitachi. As Samsung of South Korea and Acer of Taiwan produce cheaper goods, Sony is facing a recession.

Gaming sector is also Sony’s weak point where it is losing money, because Microsoft’s Xbox and Nintendo’s Wii are proving hard rivals of PS and PSP. Company has planned to close three plants in Japan as aforesaid, which are related to mobile phone cameras, video recorder parts and systems used for smart cards.

Capcom is all set to give retro games a renaissance with its launch of wider ranges of already existing PSone games on PlayStation Network in the coming times, for its entire playstation freak. Capcom’s Chris Kramer has said in an interview that players will very soon get all retro-fuelled fun on their own PSP. He said, “We’ll definitely be looking at a lot of titles that have things like Street Fighter and Resident Evil in the title”.

Upon unleashing the news of introducing whole slew of PSone library on PSP, he added that it has been decided to release a long list of titles on Capcom Unity after putting it together, so that people can opt for their favorite ones and get tremendous fun. He also agreed that nearly 20 to 40 PSN titles have been planned to bring in next few months for the enthusiasts. It is also believed that the new range of games can be played at PS3 as well as the PSP.

Merely, the news of something big on the Playstation Network has created an excitement among entire game lovers. “PSOne is included, but everything is on the table…We look for some of those big hits from all of the past games in their history and look for ways we can bring them over. It’s not always easy. There are obviously technical areas that need to be bridged. But when those are solved, consumers will see a wide variety of retro games and brand new games coming to PSN”, said John Koller, Sony’s head of U.S. marketing for PlayStation hardware.

Digital Video Express, DivX owned by Jerome Vashist-Rota and Microsoft share a relationship of different shades. Presently VP creative and founder, brand and community DivX, Rota stated, “Currently, Microsoft does support DivX, which is fantastic, but the company has brought in some third-party support for the Xbox 360, and we are not very happy with that.”

This statement was given by Rota while giving an over view of his new high definition of DivX codec; DivX7. The new DivX7 technology enables that it can encode you HD files. Note that these files can only be played on DivX certified players. Or devices that are compatible with DivX can use these files.

DivX codec become popular due to its ability to compress large files/ lengthy video segments into small sizes. Amazingly, the quality of the video does not impair. The technology used by Rota is said to be stolen from Microsoft’s MPEG-4.

Regarding consoles, at this time only Sony has signed up with DivX to be an official compliant for its PS3. It is looked forward whether any other console manufacturers would step forward to work with DivX. On part of DivX, Microsoft will be happily welcomed in this connection.

Vashist-Rota says, “When it comes to DivX branding, we have had a hard time with Microsoft. Obviously we would love for some sort of partnership to happen”.

Market analysts have an opinion that the collaboration of both Microsoft and DivX, if happens, will be beneficial for both, as more than 100 million are registered with DivX.

Sony has announced to recall around 73,000 Vaio laptops in the US, but according to some reports the number of these laptops may be as many as 440,000. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) will co-operate with Sony in this connection.

These laptops have been found with a problem that may cause overheating and short-circuit which increase the risk of its operator being burned. So far, one minor burn and 15 overheating complaints have been found.

VGN-TZ100, TZ-200, TZ-300 and TZ-2000 are among those four Vaio models that have the problems and they were sold during July 2007 to August 2008.

Sony has advised the owners to check their serial numbers and product codes from the Sony support page. If you find the same numbers, it is advised to turn off the machine and remove the battery after unplugging it. The Japanese company will provide free inspection and repair the unit if the problem is found.

The fault seems to occur because of the loose wire or a screw close to the centre.

These laptops were sent in more than 48 countries and almost 67,000 units were sold in Japan.

During the last year when crooked power sources in Dell and Apple laptops turned many machines into flames, the Sony had to recall more than five million batteries that cost it around $430m.
