Alexis Ohanian and Steve Huffman founded it in 2005. These people were studying in University of Virginia. The company that initially formed was name NOT A BUG which was acquired by Conde Nast Publications, owner of Wired, on 31st October 2006.
Ohanian named reddit as short form of “read it”.
Website has a white background with news in blue color fonts. The top bar of the website is in dull blue as well. On the top of this bar there are links to various sections dedicated to particular type of news any user may want to vote submit or read including politics, Pics, funny, programming, world news etc. These links are called sub reddits.
