“Wikipedia” is considered one of the best and most popular encyclopedia sites on the Internet. Most of the researchers and concerned persons of seriously information are visiting that marvelous site to obtain the aimed data with satisfaction that they will not face fraud or misleading sources.

It should be noted that “Wikipedia” had not been created simply. It was a result of hard efforts of its founders. In this article, the light will be thrown of “Wikipedia”, its definition, importance; it’s positive and negative points.

“Wikipeida” has been created in 2001, and is known as a free content, multilingual encyclopedia written collaboratively by contributors who are often volunteers.

The site name is combined of the word “Wiki”, which means a type of a collaborative website and the other word as ‘encyclopedia’. So, that is a full-blown encyclopedia that is edited and maintained by thousands of users around the world. ‘Wikipedia’ is available in numerous languages. Generally, it consists of 195 independent language editions sponsored by the non-profit “Wikimedia foundation”.

The unique site receives daily more than 50 million hits. In fact the visitors of “Wikipedia” could cooperate in writing articles, just to follow the regulated instruction and doing that free. But when adding any information to that site, it must be sure to add the reference. Considering that the entries on traditional encyclopedic topics exist alongside those on almanac, gazetteer and other current events topics.

The main purpose of it is to found, create, invent and distribute universally a free encyclopedia in most categories and languages. Hyperlinked encyclopedia article covers the history, government and politics, geography, economy, demographics, language and culture of all various topics.

There have been some recent discussions and disagreements between critics about the usefulness or otherwise of such a website.

Some critics saw that “Wikipedia” as primarily an effect rather than a cause. It was a descriptive rather than prescriptive. Perhaps it was similar to dictionaries. Initially, dictionaries inform us how people do use words, not how they should use them.

As similar to “Wikipedia”, the reflection of misunderstood abbreviation, an idiom or a phrase may confused us, so it should be to make sure that the perspective is clearly presented and to get to work in the culture, interesting in ‘Wikipedia’s ‘utility in indicating when the confusion has shrunk to a meaningless minority of minds. Thus, “Wikipedia” will be considered as a place of submitting an indicator of culture and should be used with careful thinking.

However, there’s a huge fault for that site to include in its hoard of links a special link called “donate”. Donations can be made confidently to maintain the respect of such a great site. However, the other benefits of the sites’ information may overcome that negative. There’s a hope in the future to see similar sites that take “Wikipedia” as its ideal sample.
